When using, always use fresh solder to keep the surface of the soldering iron bright. When the soldering iron comes into contact with the welding point, this solder coating is flatter, forming a larger contact surface for more effective heat flow. Keep the remaining solder on the soldering iron head, especially when the soldering iron is not in use for a long time, such as when it is placed on a bracket. Clean the soldering iron head at least once a day. Chemically active flux can roughen the surface of the soldering iron head, and impurities and residual flux should not accumulate on the soldering iron head.
Do not file off the coating on the soldering iron head to eliminate oxides, otherwise it will expose the copper substrate.
Regularly remove the soldering iron head to clean the part where it is inserted into the soldering iron heating element, and then reinstall the soldering iron head. Cleaning can prevent the increase in resistance of this part and prevent the soldering iron tip from sticking to the soldering iron cylinder. At the same time, when using, make sure that the soldering iron tip is firmly inserted into the heating element
Do not put too much pressure on the soldering iron head, or use it to rub the soldered leads or pads. Similarly, do not use the soldering iron head or soldering iron component as a hammer or screwdriver. When welding, add fresh solder to the leads and pads to be connected, rather than to the hot soldering iron head. The iron on the surface of the soldering iron head will quickly oxidize, and the surface will be covered with a layer of black or brown rust, which will not wet the solder. This "burnt" soldering iron tip does not need to be discarded, as it can be cleaned and re tinned. When re tinning the oxidized soldering iron head: Heat the soldering iron head enough to melt the old coating, clean the soldering iron head on a wet cellulose sponge that can be squeezed out of water, apply inorganic acid flux (which can be ammonium chloride) to remove residual rust, and then re tin with a rosin core soldering wire with increased tin content. A simple method for re tinning is to wrap the solder wire around the soldering iron head and then apply electricity to the soldering iron to melt the wire. Alternatively, if there is a soldering tin can, apply flux to the clean soldering iron head and immerse it in the molten tin in the can for re tinning. After tinning, remove any remaining solder.
Another method to remove the label on a soldering iron head that has cooled to room temperature is to use soldering iron head cleaning agent or fine sandpaper to wipe the soldering iron head until the surface resists clean gray iron (not copper), and then re tin it.
